The Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais – PUC Minas, founded in 1958, is one of the five largest universities in Brazil. Its activities concentrate mostly in the Belo Horizonte Campus, divided into four units – Coração Eucarístico, Barreiro, São Gabriel and Praça da Liberdade – and two university centres – Betim and Contagem. PUC Minas also comprises campi in four regions of the State of Minas Gerais: Arcos, Poços de Caldas, Serro and Guanhães. Altogether, PUC Minas has about 60.000 students, 2.000 faculty members and 1.800 staff members.



GRADUATE PROGRAM IN VERTEBRATE BIOLOGY

 

 

The aim of the Graduate Program in Vertebrate Biology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais is to promote formation of qualified human resources for academic activities such as teaching and research development as well as to work in consulting and other related activities.



COURSE AND OBJECTIVES

 

MASTER OF SCIENCE

 

GENERAL OBJECTIVES: GENERAL OBJECTIVES: The program aims to develop research abilities for project elaboration and implementation, critical analysis, development and dissemination of knowledge, innovation and training of qualified human resources.

 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: (a) To develop teaching, research, and other abilities that aid to increase and disseminate knowledge in the area of Vertebrate Biology; (b) to improve creativity, independence, innovation, critical thinking, leadership, and ability to work in groups or alone; (c) to generate qualified human resources with ethical principles; (d) to provide knowledge and practical expertise to prepare professionals to work in companies or independent consulting and conservation.

 

LINES OF RESEARCH

  • Zoomorphology of neotropical vertebrate groups:

    This line of research seeks to acquire knowledge regarding the morphology and physiology of recent and fossil neotropical vertebrates and their integration with the environment.

  • Conservation and behavior:

    This line of research undertakes ecological and behavioral studies that provide basic information for the application of conservation strategies to neotropical vertebrates.
